Drawing 101: A Beginner's Guide
Anyone can learn to draw and this class is for adult beginners who wish to gain a range of drawing skills and rekindle their creativity. Classically trained, your tutor Dominique Millar, will guide students through a step by step process with demonstrations detailed instruction. Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace in an supportive environment to learn the joy of drawing! The 8 week term features drawing activities that break down students' preconceptions about how quality drawings manifest. Each week students will focus on a different facet of drawing including basic shapes, still life, composition, the human face, animals, the human figure.
Over the term students will:
- use a range of drawing materials, including graphite, charcoal and pen
- understand the use of line, tone, shape, texture, proportion and composition
- learn how to approach drawing the ‘real world’ by breaking the subject down into simple components
- draw from a variety of subject matter which may include still life, the portrait, the landscape, reference material
Materials List:
- A3 visual diary / sketch book
- 2-4 large bulldog clips
- 2B and 2H pencils
- craft knife with snap-off blade for sharpening pencils
- willow and compressed charcoal sticks – various sizes
- 2 plastic erasers
